Over the Rainbow

Hello friends, near and far!

It is my pleasure to announce that my arrangement of Over The Rainbow (from the Wizard of Oz) is now available for purchase through SMP Press!

Pianist Michael Allen Harrison has dubbed Over The Rainbow as my signature piece, describing it as a melding of my classical training and “heartfelt improvisational style.” As a Ten Grands artist, I’ve had opportunity to perform this piece as part of the Ten Grands show not only in Portland, OR, but in Seattle, WA and West Palm Beach, FL as well. There have been many requests for the arrangement, but due to copyright restrictions, I’ve been unable to share it – until now!!

Here’s the fun twist: I’ve entered this piece in a contest with SMP Press! The contest runs from March 1 through April 27, 2018 and winners are determined by the highest number of orders in each category (this piece being in the piano category). The winner will receive a cash prize as well as mentions on the SMP website, the SMP newsletter and social media.

If you are interested in purchasing the piece for yourself or someone you know, NOW IS THE TIME to check out the link below!

Of course, you are more than welcome to share this link with anyone you know who may be interested, and if you are willing to post reviews, please feel free! The option is available on the link above, and your comments will be helpful to other Sheet Music Plus customers.

Thank you so much for your support and interest in my musical pursuits, and may your days be filled with over-the-rainbow delights!

Welcome, 2018!

IMG 9902 261x300 Welcome, 2018!

Hello friends, far and wide!

Happy New Year to all of you! I wanted to take a quick moment to let you know that I’ve been quietly working away on a few new projects. Most recently I’ve been turning my attention to arrangements for voice and piano. Several of these arrangements will be performed on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at a concert which is part of the “Classics and Croissants “concert series held at Classic Pianos’ Recital Hall. Janice Johnson, soprano, and Jill Timmons, pianist, will be presenting a program featuring American poets and composers – from the art song to Broadway. I’ll be there and would love to see you there as well! (The concert starts at 10:00 a.m. with refreshments and reception to follow. Reserve your seats with Peggie at Classic Pianos)

While arranging and teaching keeps me busy, I’m also delighted to have performance opportunities! Here’s a quick rundown on when and where I’ll be performing this spring:

A Christmas Gift

In recent days, I’ve been drawn to this old Christmas song, and wanted to share this bit of improvisation with you.

This is my gift to you, wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!

Colleen Heads to The Cliburn Final Update

Dear friends,

My goodness, what a ride this has been!  As many of you know, my adventure as a Cliburn International Amateur competitor has come to an end.  While I would have loved to have made it further in the competition, I have so much to be grateful for.  This experience has pressed me in ways I’ve not been pressed before, and it has taught me new lessons – lessons in musical understanding, lessons in personal understanding, and lessons in faith.

God has been my Rock – and I am so very grateful to Him for putting this whole adventure together for me.  He is faithful, He is kind, and He is good, and even in the losing, I see His hand of blessing in so many ways!

And what would we have done without Christa Abraham and Kelley Goodall??!!  Between the two of these fabulous ladies, you’ve all been kept up to date with the latest news as this week has unfolded.  While I’ve been in the practice room, they’ve been doing their thing – picture taking, postings, and navigating the world of the web.  Christa and Kelley, you are MY HEROES!!!

I am also so very, very grateful to each and every one of you who stepped into this journey with me!  So many of you cheered me on – sending notes of encouragements, watching the competitions, posting my progress on your FB pages, and praying for me.  There really aren’t words to describe the gift you’ve all given me by enthusiastically supporting  me.  I am blessed beyond description to be surrounded by such a kind, caring, fabulous bunch of friends, and I thank you from the very bottom of my heart!

Sending big hugs and bunches of love to you all, Colleen

The Quarterfinals began at 2pm and Colleen had to wait until 8pm for her slot. As she prepared, she put her focus and heart On the Rock. Kelley gives us a wonderful description what that looks like. “It’s 6pm Central and Colleen is getting ready for her evening presentation. Her delight is giving back to the Lord, that which He has gifted unto her! I can hardly wait for the first piece by Beethoven. She has described it like stepping into a lake and walking out until you can’t touch anymore; now one must float and swim and trust as the water adjusts from the warm shallows to cooler depths and the build to a joyous confidence in God carrying and protecting her all the while she is trusting in His presence about her. May this be the fruition of her entire presentation back to the Maker and Giver of her Gift to Him and us all!”

And as the evening continued,

“I just left her warm up room. I said, take a moment and praise the Lord in worship. As I closed the door she began to play, This is my story, This is my song, I shall praise Him all the day long! That’s our girl!”

Colleen Heads to the Cliburn Preliminary Round

Here we have another update from Kelley about Sunday’s adventures before Colleen’s performance!

“It’s time! After quite an eventful day full of unexpected surprises, like a change in practice time, the bathroom ceiling starting to rain and flood the floor with plaster falling off the soffit just before trying to get ready for tonight, changing rooms at the hotel, uncooperative closet doors, loud mockingbirds squawking outside the new room, etc! We are back at McDavid Studios and waiting until 7pm for Colleen to engage in her final warm up before presenting in her first round at The Cliburn Invitational! I am so excited for her and to be privileged enough to be here to support her. Keep her in prayer this hour as she presents her precious talents and musical gifts before her Audience of One and the rest of His creation!”
